What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is the lack of a hormone produced by the pancreas called insulin, insuling breaks down all the glucose in the food you eat. Once you have eaten the food your pancreas will release insulin to break it down and release it into the bloodstream to be used as energy, a diabetics body does not release the insulin, thus their bloodglucose levels will rise causing health problems, a diabetic then uses insulin through an injection to break down the glucose levels in the bloodstream to regulate blood glucose levels. A diabetic is more prone to high bloodsugar.

There is more than one type of diabetes and there are different ways of controling diabetes.

Type 1: Type one Diabetes is a complete shutdown of insulin production in the body, most people with type 1 Diabetes will be diagnosed at a young age or in their young adulthood, in order to survive with type one diabetes, you need to inject insulin daily and probably with most neals, while there is no cure or prevention of type 1 Diabetes, there are ways of controling blood glucose levels to live a normal lifestyle.

type 2: Type 2 Diabetets is a type of Diabetes that occurs due to unhealthy lifestyle and can be diagnosed at any age, this Diabetes is your body resisting the insulin and not using the hormone, type 2 Diabetes also occurs with obesity and lack of excerize. Type 2 diabetes can be treated with a healthy diet, medication (such as insulin etc.) and excersize. For more information on type 2 diabetes please consult your doctor.

Diabetes mellitus requires a lot of attention and monotoring in order to live a healthy life style, while people who have Diabetes do have to take more precautions, there is no reason for you not to live a normal lifestyle as other people do. Diabetics simply live a normal lifestyle with a bit of "tweakin" involved such as injecting for each meal, while you may have to follow a diet as a Diabetic, you may also enjoy the sweeter things in life!

Diabetes is not an uncommon disease in todays world, the World Health Organisation made an estimate that 422 million people suffer from Diabetes, globally. About 90% of all these cases are type 2 Diabetics. It is recomended to live a healthy life style whether you are Diabetic or not.
